Cherry Barbs are a long-time staple of the freshwater aquarium industry. With their vibrant, cherry red coloration, peaceful attitude, and hardy disposition, it's no wonder this fish is nearly ubiquitous in the trade. The body shape is the classic torpedo shape, with horizontal bands running across the body. Females will generally be larger, rounder, and display more muted coloration.

Care

Cherry Barbs grow to a maximum size of 2 inches, and make an excellent schooling fish in tanks of 20 gallons or more. They're a very hardy species, and can adapt to most common water conditions, and should be kept in a community tank with other peaceful species. To feel comfortable, Cherry Barbs should be purchased in schools  of 5 or more, and should also be provided with plenty of plants and cover.

Diet

Cherry Barbs are omnivorous, and will readily accept prepared foods, vegetables such a zucchini and pease, and meaty or live options.
