Product Description

Red Cherry Shrimp are one of the most popular freshwater shrimp among aquarists, known for their bright red coloration and active behavior. These small invertebrates are great for both beginners and experienced hobbyists due to their hardiness and ability to thrive in a variety of tank conditions.

Description:

Common Name: Red Cherry Shrimp

Scientific Name: Neocaridina sp.

Family: Atyidae

Size: Up to 1.5 inches (3-4 cm)

Coloration: Ranges from light red to deep cherry red; more intense coloring is often seen in females.

Native Region:

Originally from Taiwan, Red Cherry Shrimp have adapted well to captive environments and are now bred in aquariums worldwide.

Aquarium Setup:

Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons; larger tanks preferred for colonies

Substrate: Fine gravel or sand; darker substrates enhance their red coloration

Plants and Decor: Live plants such as Java moss, Anubias, and floating plants provide cover and biofilm for grazing. Rocks and driftwood are also beneficial.

Water Parameters:

Temperature: 65-80°F (18-27°C)

pH: 6.5-8.0

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (4-15 dGH)

Care Level:

Difficulty: Easy; suitable for beginners

Diet: Omnivorous; they eat biofilm, algae, and prepared foods such as shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and algae wafers

Behavior: Peaceful and non-aggressive; best kept in shrimp-only tanks or with other small, non-aggressive tank mates

Additional Tips:

Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include small fish like rasboras and neon tetras, as well as other peaceful invertebrates.

Breeding: Red Cherry Shrimp are prolific breeders under optimal conditions; a heavily planted tank provides ample hiding spots for juveniles.

Maintenance: Regular water changes and stable water parameters help maintain their vibrant coloration and health.
