Product Description

The Snowflake Eel is a hardy and visually striking marine species known for its bold black-and-white mottled pattern and yellow facial markings. Also called the Snowflake Moray, this eel is popular for its ease of care and unique presence, making it a great choice for fish-only or predator tanks.

Description:

Common Name: Snowflake Eel

Scientific Name: Echidna nebulosa

Family: Muraenidae

Size: Up to 24 inches (61 cm)

Temperament: Semi-aggressive

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Reef Safe: With caution

Native Region:

Snowflake Eels are native to the Indo-Pacific, found in coral reef areas, lagoons, and rocky crevices where they hunt for crustaceans and other invertebrates.

Aquarium Setup:

Tank Size: Minimum of 55 gallons

Temperature: 74-80°F (23-27°C)

pH: 8.0-8.4

Salinity: 1.023-1.025

Substrate: Live rock with secure caves and tight hiding spots; ensure all rockwork is stable.

Additional Tips:

Escape Artist: Must have a tightly sealed lid, as eels are known to escape through small openings.

Compatibility: Best with larger, robust fish; avoid housing with small fish or crustaceans, which may be eaten.

Diet: Carnivorous; feed chunks of shrimp, squid, silversides, or other meaty marine foods with tongs.

Reef Consideration: May knock over corals or consume ornamental shrimp and crabs; not recommended for traditional reef setups.
